be smart no automatic updates

You’re running Windows XP. So far you were a ~~brave~~ smart person and have always had automatic updates activated for Windows.

Deactivate.now.

If you are unlucky, tomorrow morning when you reboot your computer and open your favourite browser you will have IE7 installed. Yes Internet Exploder 7. Microsoft is expected to ship IE7 today as a security fix.
A collection of so far unknown security issues in old-fashioned Microsoft tradition. Plenty websites won’t display correctly anymore (except for this one which will finally display correctly).

Do you want to install the latest free security hole provided by MS? No, so deactivate automatic updates, and check every second tuesday of the month (or wednesday) Windows Update. Use the option custom to select needed updates.

IE7 is supposed to be shipped as security update on thursday. SO I guess tuesday net week might be more reality.

It almost sneaked up on me, but i managed to keep it away by beating it with a stick :)

Why do the insist on pushing this onto my machine without asking me ?
