Another day at work passed

October 28th, 2005 by Franky · // Permalink

Although I will always bring loads of work home (where is that actually), another working day went bye. The atmosphere at work became pretty normal agin and we started a new project :: rebuilding our intranet, which is basically not used because it is badly configured.

Off course the start of the project was a brainstorming-meeting and the never-ending battle for the best system-administrator started again. Occasionally I really think that I am working in the wrong world, but if I think back at my former job - bartender, cocktailmixer - I have to admit that the competition over there was just as hard. Always fighting amongst each other to be the fasted, most popular and to take the most goodlooking bitch at the end of the night.

The incident with our trainee gave me sudddenly a lot more of respect at my working place. I only work since 4 months for this company and soo far I could never complain. They have always consulted me in decisions to be made. But today I got a nice surprise :: bye the end of our meeting, the project got officially assigned to me, and guess what… I got a new office !!! I think I have to be nasty more often.

Sadly they don’t let me decide about the furniture, but the improvement is more a matter of size. Now I have almost double of what I had before, and finally a spot to put my name on. But actually it is very sad to realise how competitive one has to be in the “mean world outside”. The harder one is, and the less (s)he takes care of other people, the easier (s)he might make it to the top. And such a professional world was also prepared me that well for psychological battles, I am the first man in my family who doesn’t wear a uniform. Both my grandfathers were instructors at the Belgian army :: one of the snipers and the ther one of the black berets, the Belgian elite-troops. My father was a national top-police-officer and got later on linked to some kind of internal minister as police expert. That’s the world were I grew up.

No, you will never hear me complain about me having missed my childhood or anything like that. My parents gave me a good education, I know how to behave even if not that many people expect this from me… lol… But it was a lot harder to get rid off this “professional asshol”-attitude that I got with on my way into life. Yes it can be very helpfull if someone wants to make it to the top, but anyone can become the victim of happenig shit and one day starting to think about the feelings of other people. This is the phase i am going trough since several years now. At the same time I always have good job opportunities and fall back in old patterns.
