Am I Famous Now…

...I Am Perfect Except When I Lie

some blog observations

People, comments and jobs.
Why do people forget that blogland is not different than real life? You build a social network on your blog of people who mainly like you (why would they otherwise read you), but still you don’t know who they know, how they behave and what they tell whom. Just as in real life, be carefull what you write on your blog. You wouldn’t tell everything IRL everything about your boss either or about your last boner you had, would you?

I do work in tees with my URL (hey I just love the URL and the next one even is better :D), my bosses know my blog (and read). They do know me and do know what to expect on my blog. Why? Because my blog is me, my blog is how I behave IRL. You’ll never see me gossip about my boss’s latest flirt on my blog tho. What I write here, is exactly what I say in life too. Everyone knows it and therefore my blog isn’t really something that could me get fired.

Lets turn it around. When I still managed bars, I would have fired every waiter/waitress who would have negative remarks about her job/employer (me) in her friends circle. That is exactly the same as getting dooced (btw if you got fired for reading/posting aso, you didn’t get dooced, you just got fired because you were leeching the money your employer paid you). Embrace your blog, there is no need to hide it, unless you are a major gossip-cunt, but use.your.damn.brain.

Paid posts.
I lately see a rise of blogs who whore themselves. After adsense, TLA and even behaviour as poor as putting adsense links in posts, Paid Per Post is the newest hype. I have admitted several times already towards webcolleagues I wished this service were mine. Why? Because many bloggers are the prototype sheep who whore themselves for $3-$9/entry. It is poor, it says alot about you. And save me the crap ‘The cost of this site.’ I generate a major amount of bandwith with other sites, and still they only cost me $5/month.
Are you that sheep cheap that $25/month will make you change your blog? If I were to give you $100/year would you wear 50 days/year any shirt I gave you to promote me? Just think about it. If yes, woooowwwww!
I deleted most blogs who posted for PPP from my feedroll. If I want reviews, I’ll read them at CNet or Amazon, but I won’t read reviews who are written for $3-$9 (without even testing the item/service).
If you are an advertiser and you want me to review your stuff, send me a sample and within 3 weeks I’ll post an HONEST review about your item. Your $3-$9 can’t buy me. If you want me to review a BMW, it’ld better be at least a 320, because I have not enough of leg space in the 318 and everything under 150HP just.majorly.sucks.

Hiding your blog.
Let me admit you, I have been a victim of online namejacking. It caused me many problems. Nevertheless, 13 years of (sometimes highly aggressive) online presence have never made me hide behind a robots.txt. Or privatise my registrar data. Did you know that in countries like the UK and Germany EVERY website needs a disclaimer with contact address and registrar name. Yes, even my blog is illegal in that matter.
I don’t use my full name when I register a domain, start a new site. Thanks to the namejacking story I have learned (and spent quite some money for lawyers). Nowadays I use an official digital ID. What does this mean? In case of justice problems, the ID will be linked with my name. Nice isn’t it?

Otherwise I have nothing to hide. Because what I write here is also how I behave IRL (and many things I just don’t spit them out). And I am no cowardly pussy needing to hide my stuff from google and co.
I tell everyone my URL, I show it on tees. Even my boss knows it. He is never surprized when reading, because he already knows what I write.
Why not? It’s me. I am proud of my person. I don’t need to hide. I don’t gossip either (but will tell you PERSONALLY what I think).

Consider this my FOAD entry.

Disclaimer : Noone particularly is aimed here, just a few observations of a blogging year, and I do know there have been exceptions on the job situation, even regular reads of mine. ;-)

I’ve taken all the PPP whores off my Blogline reads. I only read through there now so even though they’re on my “blogroll” I don’t read them. Not fucking worth it to me.
